Media & Library

About Our Class
My main goal is to encourage and promote not just an appreciation for reading, but a passion for it and to assist in the development of thinking skills as well as reading skills. The proper care and handling of books, book selection, the parts of a book, the arrangement of Easy and Fiction books, the types and uses of references and periodicals,  and the Dewey Decimal System are some of the library skills that are taught.  How to research, and access free e-books and references online are also taught.
When I visit the VPK classes, I usually read, ask questions, do action rhymes, "share" something and give stickers. Grades K through 7 visit the library and check out books for one week.  Borrowing books encourages our students to be responsible.  If they lose or damage a book, a $10.00 replacement fee is charged OR a book with the same title and author may be purchased.  Our students NEVER pay overdue fines. The kindergartners borrow board books.  Grades 1 through 5 borrow classics, Newbery Award books and other fiction books like the popular, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but we also have nonfiction books.
Al-Furqan Academy students experience more than story time, they have LIBRARY TIME!!!
