5th Grade
Our class structure is based on a literacy influence. Daily objectives include standards from the Common Core as well as Florida state standards. No two instructional days are alike and may include both guided and independent practice. We spend time discussing and engaging in weekly stories, journal-style reading responses, and learning grammar and writing skills. Our weekly skills are also emphasized during reading centers or writing workshop. Students are assessed in a variety of ways that help to include all learning styles. Grades are based on class performance, student work and daily participation. In addition to academic proficiency, students are expected to learn responsibility, critical thinking and problem solving skills, and teamwork. Classroom standards and rules are practiced and emphasized daily and students are expected to perform on or above classroom standards at all times. Our goal as a class is to perform and exceed expectations while achieving academic success.
